Like everything, adult education has had some major changes in the last few years. I believe one of the biggest drivers of these changes is the exponentially increased use of technology. With the use of technology it is giving adult learners so much more opportunity to take classes, while also working full time, like many of us in the PIDP course. Having the option to take classes online and work full time has opened the door for so many people who may have never had the opportunity to enhance their lives though education. It has also given many people the opportunity to advance their careers. Not only has the availability of courses increased, but also the value of courses. With the option for institutions to offer classes online, it had brought down the cost of those courses making the more accessible. Some institutions are now even offering free education from world class professors, like in this TEDtalk, https://www.ted.com/talks/daphne_koller_what_we_re_learning_from_online_education/transcript?language=en – t-176180. With the market rapidly expanding and becoming more accessible, we are going to see a huge increase in lifelong learning, which I don’t anyone can argue is a bad thing.
